Getting to the correct terminal at Barcelona airport needs a little thought. A new second terminal was built some years ago at the other end of the runway from the first, but all the infrastructure (trains in particular) go to the first terminal. Naturally, our flight was going from the newer terminal. There is a bus from the centre of Barcelona This means that the handy train from the biggest station in Barcelona goes to one end of the runway whereas all the international flights go from the new terminal at the other end.
The hotel recommended walking to the Plaça d'Espapagna and taking the airport bus to terminal 1. The bus arrived as we were waiting to cross the road to the bus stop and so we were quickly away and , having checked in, were through security and having a later breakfast air side.
The terminal s very new and very shiny, with black glossy floors and many lights, making it look like walking on oil - not a good sensation for me.
There were not many flights and ours seemed to be the one leaving from the spacious gate area, where they had thought of everything:
The flight was uneventful and we soon had our first view of La Palma.
Our first stop was in Barvelino, on the north eastern side of the island. We drove along the coast on windy roads, past banana plantations on the sides of hills and overlooking the sea. E
Our hotel is a out a kilometre outside the village of Barvelino. Some photos from around the hotel. We can see Tenerife from the roof.
The hotel has a restaurant and we ate a good meal which included a Canarian special, wrinkly potatoes.
