Lunch in the park

From time to time, there are lunches or dinners organised by the local UNRPA (Union of Retired and Older Aged). In June, there is a paella lunch in the small park in our village.

This year we were on time for the event (or in french terms, late!). There were not many seats left and we were unable to sit with our neighbours, as we usually do, or with our friends in the choral.

There was space with a group of elderly men who we recognise from other events. While there are plenty of elderly women in groups, usually widows, or course, to find six men, the youngest of whom is 86, is noteable. They are all of sound mind and all knew our house. One of them, clearly Spanish both from accent and appearance, had worked for a previous owner of our house , tending and picking grapes.

So what 93 year olds do in the park?

Our meal was salad, followed by paella and the cheese and the usual ice cream followed by the building of towers with the empty containers. Naturally accompanied by plenty of wine.

Then it was time for a nap, before completing the packing ready for a departure at 0345 the next day.
