The first part of the journey was driven by Magalli who normally works in the office, planning and arranging trips. Then, after a couple of hours, Magalli left us and her husband, Christoph, took over and will drive us for the rest of the week.
We drove along the Mediterranean coast, passing Marseille, Nice and Monaco before we reached the Italian border. Trying to get a good photo of Monaco of a top of the range yacht in the harbour is always a challenge.
The later stages of the journey included a series of tunnels followed by a viaduct then a tunnel and so on. There may or may not be a view of a town or the coast, depending on the height of the fence.
We stopped at Savone for an unexceptional lunch in a hotel restaurant and then continued on our way along the Italian motorways, passing Genoa and through wooded hills alongside rivers and in and out of tunnels.

As we travelled further south, we saw more mountains along our route.
